Since the SLR camera came on the market, it has become indispensable and especially professionals, but also ambitious amateur photographers rely on the many advantages that such a camera has to offer. Their application possibilities are almost unlimited and the versatility of a digital SLR camera is unmatched. Whether they are well-known sports photographers, photojournalists or wedding photographers - most of them rely on the reliability and image quality of digital SLR cameras. There are two categories of SLR cameras in use today, which differ mainly in the size of the sensor used. To this day, the imaging quality of cameras with a full-frame sensor is unrivalled. The size of this sensor is exactly the same as that of 35-millimeter film, a format familiar from analogue times. SLR cameras with an APS-C sensor have a slightly smaller sensor, which has its advantages especially in photography with long focal lengths. With an APS-C sensor, there is a so-called "crop factor" that makes it possible to shoot with less long focal lengths in the telephoto range. A big advantage of today's digital SLR cameras is that there is a wide range of lenses available. So it does not necessarily have to be a lens of the respective camera manufacturer such as Canon, Nikon, Sony or Pentax because you can also decide for a sometimes cheaper lens or one with other qualities from a third party manufacturer. For example, the lens manufacturers here are Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and Zeiss which offer a wide range of choices for almost all common lens bayonets. With a digital SLR camera, you are free to choose whether to shoot with a fast fixed focal length or a flexible and practical zoom lens. SLR cameras are available for beginners, ambitious hobby photographers and professionals who earn their money with it. Two things are the same for cameras in different price and performance classes, namely the excellent feel and good workmanship. The body of an SLR camera is shaped in such a way that it can be held comfortably and securely in the hands, even with a larger lens. Even such big names as Leica and Hasselblad are convinced of the versatility and application possibilities of this practical camera. Depending on the sensor with which an SLR camera is equipped and the lens with which one is currently photographing, different effects can be achieved. For example, with a camera equipped with a full-frame sensor and a fast lens, it is easy to crop the photographed object against the background. Thanks to the speed and impressive performance in continuous shooting mode, SLR cameras can basically freeze motion. Likewise, it is possible, for example, with a suitable neutral-density filter to take long exposures, which impress especially with a calm and gentle aura. Compared to cameras with smaller sensors, SLR cameras have far better imaging performance, the full potential of which is exploited when the possibilities of integrated raw data storage is used. This allows the photographer to exert a great deal of influence on the look of the image in post-processing even after the shot has been taken. Thanks to the proven and constantly improving technology, the battery life of digital SLR cameras is very long compared to mirrorless system cameras. In the meantime, the SLR camera with its range of available and adaptable lenses has also arrived among filmmakers. With the extensive range of accessories, the camera can be fully adapted to the needs of the user, so that the professional wedding photographer can enjoy it just as much as the amateur photographer and the ambitious filmmaker.
