With four XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors, the Sony SEL 16-35mm f/4.0 G PZ's autofocus is extremely fast and precise. It also improves zoom performance - it is smooth and tracks subjects evenly. Another advantage is that the barrel does not extend when zooming, so the Lens retains its compact size. Focus breathing is virtually non-existent, a factor that is especially important when shooting video.

In addition to dust and moisture resistance, the Sony SEl 16-35mm f/4.0 G PZ features a fluorine coating. This means that external influences such as water, oil or other contamination are no longer a problem; so no matter what the application or circumstances, you can always concentrate fully on taking photos. To further facilitate your operation and make it more efficient, the wide-angle lens is equipped with a zoom, focus and aperture ring. Depending on your preference, the click stops of the aperture can be turned on and off via a switch. Furthermore, there is still an AF-MF switch, a zoom lever, as well as an aperture lock and a configurable focus hold button.
