Even more inspiration
Discover new photographic expression through unparalleled image quality and processing speed. The new member of the α7R series is characterized by even more networking possibilities and improved reliability, which is essential for the work of professionals.

Maximum resolution: Full-frame CMOS sensor with 61.0 megapixels
The α7R IV full-frame mirrorless camera features a newly developed CMOS 35 mm full-frame sensor with backside-illuminated design and 61.0 megapixels. This ensures expressive images that were previously only expected from conventional medium format cameras. As the mirrorless design eliminates the movement of mechanical mirrors, maximum resolution can be achieved without any negative impact on image quality. The α7R IV offers image quality that exceeds the expectations of conventional full-frame cameras, especially in the low to medium sensitivity range. The technology developed by Sony ensures remarkably high resolution with low noise and high sensitivity.

Full exploitation of the CMOS sensor's potential thanks to optimized image processor
The BIONZ X high-speed processor has also been further improved and is therefore in no way inferior to the new image sensor in terms of excellence. The result: faithful reproduction of details and considerably less noise. Noise, which can occur due to the increased number of pixels, is minimized for high image quality. This applies in particular to the ISO standard sensitivity range of up to ISO 32,000. A wide dynamic range of up to 15 steps at low ISO sensitivity (for photos) ensures smoother gradations from shaded to bright areas. The color reproduction in photos celebrated in the current α series and retained in the α7R IV also enables the natural reproduction of skin tones in portraits and vivid flower colors.

Outstanding resolution of 61.0 MP
The extremely high image resolution of 61.0 megapixels of the α7R IV is complemented by further advantages. These include the integrated optical 5-axis image stabilization with optimized algorithms for a 5.5-step shutter speed15. Another outstanding feature is the electronic shutter for quiet, vibration-free shooting. The α7R IV also has an internal damper that absorbs the effect of the shutter movement. This reduces the shutter vibration to a minimum. The α7R IV has many functions for sharp, high-resolution images.

UXGAOLED Tru-Finder with 5.76 million pixels
This electronic viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels is a new feature of the α7R IV and enables high-precision, extremely bright and high-contrast images. Fine details are reproduced with a resolution 1.6 times higher than that of the α7R III. In high display quality mode, the effective image sensor with (approx.) 61.0 megapixels reduces moiré effects and image defects, ensuring extremely precise and natural images in the viewfinder. The "high" viewfinder refresh rate mode with 120/100 frames per second enables smoother image sequences and therefore easier tracking of moving images. A fluorine coating makes it easier to remove dirt or fingerprints from the Lens. This ensures more comfortable viewing in adverse weather conditions and better concentration on the shot.

Large, fast and smooth autofocus
By increasing the coverage and density of AF points and improving the algorithm for tracking moving images, the overall autofocus performance has been enhanced to enable continuous and precise tracking of complex subject movements and speed changes. The α7R IV is equipped with a fast hybrid autofocus that combines high-speed phase detection with powerful tracking and high-precision autofocus with contrast detection. This makes it suitable even for low-light shooting environments such as EV-3. AF phase detection with 567 AF points and AF contrast detection with 425 AF points provide wider image area coverage20 of 99.7% (height) and 74.0% (width). In addition, this remarkable AF system proves to be just as responsive as the α7R III when processing large amounts of data and even in low-light shooting environments, thanks to the extremely high resolution CMOS sensor.

14-bit RAW output for natural gradations
The α7R IV supports compressed and uncompressed 14-bit RAW output. This ensures smoother, more natural gradations that contribute to an overall better image quality. With even higher 16-bit processing in the image processor, the front-end LSI and optimized BIONZ X image processor enable 14-bit RAW outputs, even in silent mode or continuous shooting mode.
[1] Image sensor [2] The latest high-speed front-end LSI [3] 16-bit image processing

Up to 68 frames in continuous shooting mode
Professional photographers rely on uninterrupted shooting. With a 1.5 times larger buffer memory, high system speed and support for UHS-II, the α7R IV can capture up to approximately 68 images in a series at up to 10 frames per second. In APS-C shooting mode, approximately three times more photos can be taken than in full-frame shooting mode. The Fn menu/menu screen can be accessed, settings can be changed and images can be viewed during data processing. During playback, the number of pictures that can still be taken is shown on the display.

Anti-flicker system
Flicker caused by fluorescent and other artificial light is automatically detected and the shutter is timed to minimize the flicker effect on photos. This suppresses exposure and color inconsistencies in continuous shooting, as well as exposure and color anomalies that occur at the top and bottom of images with fast shutter speeds, making indoor shooting much easier.

Exceptionally fast high-speed continuous shooting at 10 frames per second and AF/AE tracking
Despite the high resolution of 61.0 MP12, a sophisticated algorithm enables efficient processing for high-speed continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second21 and AF/AE tracking via mechanical shutter control. Continuous shooting in Live View mode at up to 8 frames per second is also possible. Fast-moving subjects are captured with minimal display delay. After cropping a full-frame image to APS-C format or selecting the APS-C shooting mode, you can still obtain high-resolution images with 26.2 megapixels. This is great news for wildlife photographers who need to use the crop function for images of fast-moving birds or other animals taken from a distance.

More shots in profile length
Like the α7R III, the α7R IV uses the NP-FZ100 battery, which is characterized by a high capacity. Thanks to a more energy-efficient circuit design, the α7R IV is in no way inferior to the α7R III in terms of longevity, despite the higher resolution of the image sensor and the electronic viewfinder. An optional vertical grip (VG-C4EM) can hold two batteries. An optional multi-battery adapter set (NPA-MQZ1K) for up to four batteries ensures an even longer operating time. In addition to these optional accessories, multi/micro USB and USB Type C ports for external batteries provide additional power to the camera for even longer shooting time.

Optimized real-time eye detection AF (human eye) for more beautiful portraits
Based on the latest developments in artificial intelligence, real-time eye detection AF works together with real-time tracking technology. The result: highly efficient portrait shots. This cutting-edge system recognizes and processes face and eye data in real time and stays focused on the subject's eye with unprecedented precision. When "Face Priority in AF Mode" is switched on, you can activate AF with eye detection (AF-C/AF-S/AF-A mode) not only via a custom button assignment, but also by holding the shutter button halfway down or pressing the AF-ON button. Now you can use this function to select a specific eye - left or right - in advance or during shooting. Real-time eye detection AF supports both video recording and photos.

Two media slots, each supporting UHS-II
The α7R IV has two media slots for SD cards. Both Slot 1 and Slot 2 are now compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II for fast processing of large amounts of data. Use two cards simultaneously to store shots or relay shots, separate RAW from JPEG data or photos from videos, or copy data from one card to the other. A locking slider prevents accidental opening of the memory card cover.

Continuous focus on tracked subjects with real-time tracking
This technology automatically maintains precise focus when the shutter button is pressed halfway. You can rely on the α7R IV: Simply select the desired subject and concentrate on your composition. The camera takes care of subject tracking. A newly developed real-time tracking algorithm processes spatial information based on color, pattern (brightness) and subject distance (depth) data. The AI technology recognizes the subject's face and eyes in real time. Available for both stills and movies.

Phase-detection autofocus supports A-mount lenses
Phase-detection AF works even when an A-mount Lens is attached to the α7R IV using an LA-EA3 lens adapter. The 567-point phase-detection AF system offers wide coverage, fast response times and extremely powerful tracking, even when an A-mount lens is attached.

Real-time Eye Detection AF for Animals reliably detects wildlife and pets
The advanced AI-based subject recognition of Real-time Eye Detection AF uses a new algorithm for tracking animals. This allows an animal's eye to be recognized and tracked quickly, accurately and automatically. This new feature will significantly increase your success rate when shooting animals in the wild or at home. These are situations where precise focusing has previously been a challenge. All AF-C, AF-S and AF-A focus modes are supported.

Composition of 16 different resolution images with the Pixel Shift Multi Shooting function
The Pixel Shift Multi Shooting function opens up a whole new dimension of resolution. In addition to the previously available composition of four images, the α7R IV now also supports the composition of 16 images with different resolutions. With this revised function, which is based on improved image stabilization, the sensor is alternately moved four times in steps of half a pixel and four times in steps of one pixel. This captures a total of 16 images with different resolutions. These are combined by the PC so that a single high-precision image with around 240.8 million pixels (19,008 x 12,672) is created from original data with the equivalent of around 963.2 million pixels. In this way, an overwhelming resolution is achieved in a single image. Photos of architecture and art are characterized by their lifelike details, textures, colors, moods and backdrops as well as their 3D-like realism. Not only can shading be captured with minimal moiré effects or colour artefacts, but the atmosphere and surroundings can also be faithfully reproduced with unprecedented, breathtaking precision.

Versatile flash compatibility
The α7R IV is equipped with a sync port so that external flash units and cables with standard sync ports can also be conveniently connected for synchronization with studio flash units and similar devices. Devices can be connected. The shutter release delay when using flash units is minimized, thus enabling smooth and fast flash photography. The continuous shooting mode with flash and up to 10 frames per second offers advanced shooting options. If you have a wireless external flash connected, slow sync and second shutter curtain sync give you further versatility

WirelessPC remote control
When using the α7R IV alone, you can now use wireless PC remote control functions via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz/5 GHz selectable) to remotely control camera settings or send captured images to the camera while shooting. This wireless setting offers maximum freedom for indoor and outdoor shooting. In addition, the α7R IV also supports remote PC control functions via a USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatible USB Type C port. This enables the transfer of image data at the time of shooting in tethering priority mode. Even large RAW images can be easily transferred and immediately checked on the PC.

Various touch functions for greater freedom
With touch focus, you can simply touch the display to select a desired subject near the edges of the frame. The touchpad focus point control allows you to move the focus section to any point with a simple finger movement while using the viewfinder. Touch tracking facilitates subject tracking for photos and movies. A double tap enlarges the view. With the α7R IV, the touchpad also responds around 1.5 times faster than with the α7R III.

Redesigned controls for safe and convenient operation
A new multi-select button lets you move the focus point quickly and intuitively so you don't miss any moving images. At the request of professional users, the surface structure has been changed to enable better button response and therefore easier and more comfortable operation. In addition, the AF-ON button has been enlarged and optimized for better accessibility and adapted in terms of click feel and placement. A new lock button locks or unlocks the exposure compensation dial at the touch of a button and prevents it from being accidentally adjusted when in the locked position. These improvements help you to focus on the shutter release to capture special moments instantly.

Reliable stability and weather resistance in demanding situations
The α7R IV impresses with further improved housing stability. A lightweight but very robust magnesium alloy was used for the covers and the internal frame. This makes the camera extremely robust yet lightweight. In response to the opinions of professionals, the battery and connection covers as well as all housing joints have been provided with an improved seal. For better moisture protection, the hinge on the media compartment cover has been replaced by a double-sealed sliding mechanism. Possible entry routes for dust and moisture were re-examined. In addition, padding has been added to the lens adapter to ensure reliable operation even in demanding environments.

Faster hybrid autofocus and more precision for smoother and more stable results when shooting movies
Faster, more precise hybrid autofocus ensures smoother and more stable AF results when shooting movies. This significantly reduces the need for focusing when using a camera mount or when shooting video without assistance. A new touch tracking function is also available for movie recordings. This allows you to simply touch the desired subject on the display to start tracking. If the shutter release button is pressed halfway (or the AF-ON button is pressed), AF-S mode is activated immediately. This simplifies filming in situations with pressure to succeed, such as weddings and documentaries.

For lifelike, high-resolution 4K movies
For high-resolution, detailed 4K movies with minimal moiré effects and image defects, the Super 35 mm mode compresses approximately 2.4 times more data than is required for 4K movies (QFHD: 3840 x 2160). Thanks to optimized processing, 4K movies can be recorded with the α7R IV with improved reproduction of skin tones and smoother gradations. In addition to S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma curves, the α7R IV impresses with the HLG image profile (Hybrid Log-Gamma) for an HDR direct workflow. This supports a wide range of requirements in the production of HDR videos. The α7R IV offers the XAVC S recording format for 4K and enables high image quality with high bit rates of up to 100 Mbit/s.
[1] High flexibility in the targeted individual adjustment of images (colour corrections necessary) [2] High-quality recordings without delay (colour corrections not necessary)

Advanced digital audio recording with the new MI shoe
A digital audio interface has been added to the accessory shoe with multiple interfaces (MI shoe). The combination with the new ECM-B1M shotgun microphone or the new XLR-K3M adapter kit for XLR enables clear audio recordings with minimal loss of quality by transmitting the digital audio signal to the camera. The wireless, battery-free design provides even more flexibility when recording video with the α system.

Versatile movie recording functions
With the α7R IV, you now also have the option of changing the names of XAVC S video files. For example, you can define a prefix in advance for easy identification when recording with several cameras. Interval recording is also available for producing time-lapse films. There are also numerous functions for the work of professional filmmakers. These include uncompressed HDMI output, time code and stamp (TC/UB), recording control, marker display/template setting, zebra function, slow motion and time lapse, simultaneous proxy movie recording, creating a still image from a video and Gamma Display Assist.

Support for 4:3 and 1:1 aspect ratios
In addition to the conventional 3:2 and 16:9 aspect ratios, the α7R IV now also supports 4:3 and 1:1. With these new aspect ratios, professional users have more diverse types of delivery data available for a wider range of media.

Improved storage of camera settings
Significantly more camera settings can now be stored on the memory card. The saved settings can be read by other cameras of the same model. With the function for saving and loading settings, up to ten sets of camera settings can also be saved on a memory card. It is also possible to import camera settings into the Imaging Edge Mobile app. Imported settings can be exported to other cameras of the same model.

Quickly customizable menu interface
The personal menu function allows you to save up to 30 frequently used functions that can be called up immediately when needed. You can also configure a custom menu that is ideally suited to your recording requirements. In addition to the user-defined menu, a clear control system illustrates the meaning of the functions and ensures intuitive operation. You can call up a help screen by pressing the clear button when using the menu screen.

Customization for maximum efficiency
With the "My Dial" function, three sets of menu options can be assigned to the rear or front dial and the control dial. The frequently used functions assigned to the dials are immediately available when you press and hold a custom button. 113 functions can be assigned to custom buttons. Independent function sets can be assigned for photos, movies and playback.

Rating function and image jump setting for efficient sorting on site
Ratings from 1 to 5 stars can be assigned to photos. These are also retained when you import the images into the Imaging Edge desktop application (viewer) running on a PC. This rating function or a function to protect photos against accidental deletion can be assigned to a button for individual assignment (C3 for delete protection by default). You can activate ratings or protection functions via the display when viewing the images. You can view, protect or delete serial images on site or on the move. The image jump setting, which allows you to skip 10/100 photos at once, and the group display for continuous shooting provide you with convenient functions for quick and efficient image review.

Intelligent collaboration with mobile devices and accessories
Even when the camera is switched off, photo and video files stored on an SD memory card inserted in the camera can be transferred via Wi-Fi if you have set this up in advance. Using the Imaging Edge Mobile app on your mobile device paired with the camera, you can select the images you want.

FTP transfer function, now with background data transfer support
This camera allows you to select images you have taken and transfer the data to the desired external FTP server via Wi-Fi (wireless LAN). FTPS (File Transfer Protocol over SSL/TLS) is supported for increased security. In this way, SSL or TLS data encryption is possible for maximum security. With FTP file transfer, which is now supported in the background, image files can be transferred while recording continues. Up to nine FTP servers can be specified in advance in the camera. These powerful functions allow you to work even more efficiently and professionally. Benefit from easier image selection and FTP transfer via the Transfer + Tagging add-on to send files using a mobile device. Wi-Fi at 5 GHz is available for a high-speed connection.
