The recipe of this legendary photographic paper from Forte would have been lost in the digital revolution if ADOX had not saved the production technology. After ten years of development work, ADOX has succeeded in recreating this beige-green, high-resolution emulsion with a genuine vintage look and outstanding toning properties.
It is now also available for creating artistic works on various substrates.
The fixed contrast of 2.5 was chosen in order to be able to convert most negatives perfectly.
With a bottle of 300ml you can coat approx. 2.5-3 square meters (depending on the application quantity - specification applies to 1mm wet application).
Pouringwith photo emulsion (open the packaging only in the darkroom under red protective light!):
The liquid photo emulsion is soft and gelatinous in the bottle.
To be able to use it, it must:
1. Be warmed up to approx. 42-45°C
2. After application, dry well in complete darkness (maximum exposure to protective light 2 minutes. ADOX SUPERSAFE maximum 10 minutes)
3. Hardened during processing to withstand mechanical influences/touching
ADHESION
The best binder is ADOX COLLOIDA C photo gelatine. It is easy to process in the light to prepare and later coat all substrates such as paper, glass, textiles or even stones.
ADOX COLLOIDA C is the same high-purity photo gelatine that we use to produce Polywarmtone photo emulsion. Generic gelatines carry a high risk of blurring the emulsion.
ADOX Art Baryta is a pre-coated paper on which the photo emulsion can be applied directly without prior coating.
HARDENER
If you only want to coat paper - without further processing such as toning - you do not necessarily have to use hardener. The emulsion dries and adheres quite well. In most cases, however, it is recommended or necessary to use the hardener ADOX EMH-1. It produces an acidic hardening bath, which replaces the stop bath. If damage to the coating material already occurs in the developer (e.g. with glass plates), it is advisable to carry out the hardening bath before the developer (1-2 minutes). Afterwards, water should be added before development. The hardening process can also be carried out after fixation.
